Why we make it

Most drawing tools are made for furnishing a flat. Real houses have basements, main floors and lofts under sloping roofs, and the plans are often about converting the loft, building an extension or opening up the wall between the living room and the kitchen.

Then you need more than a floor plan. You need knee walls and the right floor area, an understanding of what the walls carry, and drawings the building authority accepts. The alternative is often paying thousands for drawings before you even know you need them.

House Madness gives you the tools yourself. You draw the house as it is, try the changes, see them in 3D – and bring something concrete to the conversation with professionals.

What we believe in

  • Your house is yours

Projects are stored in your browser, and a whole project can always be saved as one file. No lock-in.

  • Free means free

One whole house with every tool, with no card and no clock ticking. You pay when the drawings leave the house.

  • Honest about limits

Structural figures are estimates. We always say a structural engineer must verify, and that some projects need a qualified professional to apply.

  • Norway first, Europe next

We started with Norwegian rules, maps and drawing conventions. Area and stair rules for more countries are on the way.

Where we are going

This is what we are working on now:

  1. An assistant you can talk to – first as a chat in the app, then with voice
  2. Area, stair and drawing rules for more countries
  3. A parametric stair tool with winders, spiral stairs and loft stairs
  4. Dormers and roof windows that count in the area and show in sections and elevations
  5. Beams found from photos: take a picture of the ceiling and ask “is there a beam here?”

Talk to us

We would love to hear what you are planning, what is missing and what does not work.
