Lofts, roofs and knee walls

Make the loft in one click and see where the headroom is and how much floor area counts.

How to do it

  1. Draw or import the floor below the loft.

  2. In the levels panel at the bottom left, choose ⋯ → “Create loft from floor below”.

  3. Select the roof (or a knee wall) and adjust the pitch and knee wall height. The plan shows the headroom lines and the measurable area as you drag.

  4. Draw the loft’s rooms. Walls under the sloping roof get the right height by themselves.

  5. Switch to “Split” or 3D and pick Dollhouse to look into the loft.

Good to know

  • The knee wall height is the inside height from the loft floor to the sloping ceiling at the outer wall – the way you measure it.
  • What counts as measurable area depends on your country’s rules. In Norway (NS 3940) it is the area where the ceiling is at least 1.9 m high, plus 0.6 m out towards the eaves.
  • “Add inner knee walls” puts in walls with eaves storage behind them.
